Rehabilitation of the urban district heating system at the level of Oradea town for the time period 2009-2028 with a view to complying with environmental legislation and increasing energetic efficiency

The carbon emissions generated by district heating plants are a major source of air pollution. The measures to reduce them have, besides ecological dimension, a positive impact upon energetic efficiency.

The project “Rehabilitation of the urban district heating system at the level of Oradea town for the time period 2009-2028 with a view to complying with environmental legislation and increasing energetic efficiency” envisages reduction of the negative impact of polluting emissions and minimization of climate effects caused by the centralized electrical energy supply system, in order to improve air quality and population health condition and at the same time alignment with EU regulations in the field.

The project has a total value of Euro 77,772,000 and it is co-financed by the Sectorial Operational Program ENVIRONMENT – Priority axis 2, Major Intervention Domain 1.

In order to reach the general objective, it is specifically envisaged to: reduce pollution of air by the district heating system, by BAT – best available technologies, introduce certain energetic efficiency measurements, in order to minimize energy loss and ensure affordable tariffs for thermal energy supply, for all population categories.

Also, the project includes the development of a new district heating unit at the source CET Oradea and rehabilitation and modernization of 17.5 km of the transportation network for thermal energy.
